HELCOR-LEDER-TEC – leather finishing without limits

Ad| While visiting HELLER-LEDER, I also had the chance to talk to the Managing Director of HELCOR-LEDER-TEC, Michael Thamm. The company ennobles split leather with a special leather finishing. The products are used in the car and furniture industry as well as in the handbag, accessory, and shoe sector.

Mr. Thamm, your company produces leather by using an innovative leather finishing technology. Please tell us how it works.

The patented and unique finishing technology allows the application of a polyurethane film. Thinner than 0,15 mm, this creates a breathable, water, vapour-, and air permeable material, which complies with all leather relevant specifications. It can therefore be called “real leather“.

The PU film is thinly sprayed onto silicone moulds and thereafter inseparably linked to the leather with a mix of aqueous chemicals, pressure, and heat.

Almost every imaginable surface can be moulded using these silicone moulds, which are produced in-house. This and the fact that we produce leathers which are uniform to the smallest detail, opens an extremely wide range for design ideas.

With that leather finishing technique you are able to produce a huge variety of different leather designs. Is there a product which is very special in terms of look and feel?

HELCOR has developed more than 220 different surface designs over the years and there are quite a few of which we are particularly proud of.

There is for example our article 3-D CARBONE. Taken from real carbon fibres and transferred onto leather, this article is suitable for all kinds of application.

Then there is MAREZZO, a moiré pattern transferred onto leather and our VELVET S, a nubuk-like surface, originally designed for the automotive industry.

Our CERABUK range offers special aesthetic and unique optics and haptics combined with extraordinary properties like abrasion, colour- and lightfastness, and clean-ability.

Last but not least, I would like to mention our STINGRAY surface, which is mainly produced with a two-colour effect. The colours change with different light exposure and look exceptional.

Which of your products are currently the most requested ones in the accessory sector?

Especially the Bicolor range, available on different surfaces, meets the actual spirit of the time. The constantly changing colours create an immediate ‚WOW‘ effect and make the leather seem alive.

Especially our STINGRAY or MAREZZO surfaces stand representatively for a large variety of possibilities.

In general, we can say that it is much more the special surfaces than the known leather surfaces which attract people getting to know HELCOR.

HELCOR-LEDER-TEC also produces Bonded leather which amongst others is a very important filler for handbags and small leather goods. How is that made?

Bonded leather is leather recycling at its best. It is made by shredding leather scraps and leather fibre, and afterwards being mixed with bonding materials.

Bonded leather quality is not comparable anymore to qualities known ten years ago. Some bonded leathers are even called to be superior in durability over genuine leather of lower quality. This is the reason why bonded leather is becoming an interesting material even for high-priced articles and certainly not only as a filler.

Where are your products available?

You can order the leathers with us. We are a German company based in Hehlen, Niedersachsen and can be reached by phone +49 5533 9702 0 or via info@helcor-leder-tec.com.
